About Central/ Downtown

Downtown Colorado Springs was founded in 1871 by General William Jackson Palmer. Most of the homes in the area were built between 1900-1960 and include a wide range of architectural designs including Victorian mansions, Spanish-style bungalows, and Craftsman style homes. The area offers an urban lifestyle with pedestrian-friendly streetscapes full of locally owned shops and restaurants, museums, entertainment, parks, and attractions. Colorado College and The Olympic Training Center are located downtown. Colorado Springs School District 11 serves the families in the Central area.
